Handmade Square Lampshades

The square lampshade has four equal sides, defined corners and a structured geometric profile. It is useful where a lamp needs a more formal outline than a round shade, particularly with square, rectangular or architectural lamp bases.

Each square lampshade is handmade in our UK workshop and can be ordered from our standard range or developed as a bespoke square lampshade for a specific project. We can make square shades in a wide choice of fabrics, linings, trims and finishes, including customer’s own material where suitable.

What Is a Square Lampshade?

A square lampshade has equal width and depth, with straight sides and defined corners. Compared with a rectangle lampshade, it has a more compact and symmetrical footprint.

The shape is useful where the shade needs to relate to a square lamp base, a geometric furniture piece or a more formal decorative scheme.

Choosing the Right Square Lampshade

Square lampshades are often specified for table lamps, bedside lamps, hotel rooms and interiors where a round shade would feel too soft or too conventional.

The proportions need careful consideration. A square shade that is too wide can dominate the lamp base, while a shade that is too small can make the overall lamp feel top-heavy. Fabric alignment is also important, especially with stripes, pattern repeats or directional weaves.
