Handmade Cylinder Lampshades

The cylinder lampshade is a tall, straight sided shade with a clean vertical profile. It gives more height than a standard drum lampshade, making it useful for floor lamps, taller table lamps, pendant fittings and decorative schemes where a slimmer upright proportion is required.

Each cylinder lampshade is handmade in our UK workshop and can be ordered from our standard range or developed as a bespoke cylindrical lampshade for a specific project. We can make cylinder shades in a wide choice of fabrics, linings, trims and finishes, including customer’s own material where suitable.

What Is a Cylinder Lampshade?

A cylinder lampshade has a similar top and bottom diameter with a taller vertical side. It is related to the drum lampshade, but the greater height gives it a more elongated and architectural appearance.

The shape is useful where a shade needs presence without becoming too wide.

Choosing the Right Cylinder Lampshade

Cylinder lampshades are often specified for floor lamps, bedside lamps, contemporary table lamps, wall lights and pendant fittings.

The height of the shade needs to be considered carefully against the lamp base or drop length. A taller cylinder can look elegant and controlled, but if the diameter is too narrow it may feel visually heavy. The fabric and lining also affect how much light passes through the vertical surface.
