Handmade Oval Lampshades

The oval lampshade has an elliptical profile, offering a softer alternative to a rectangular shade and a more space-efficient option than a round shade of similar width. Its shape works well where depth is limited, such as on narrow tables, consoles, bedside lamps and wall-adjacent positions.

Each oval lampshade is handmade in our UK workshop and can be ordered from our standard range or developed as a bespoke oval lampshade for a specific project. We can make oval shades in a wide choice of fabrics, linings, trims and finishes, including customer’s own material where suitable.

What Is an Oval Lampshade?

An oval lampshade has a curved elliptical plan rather than a circular one. This means it can provide visual width from the front while taking up less depth than a round drum lampshade.

The shape is useful where a lamp needs to sit close to a wall, on a console table or in a tighter interior space without looking too small from the front.

Choosing the Right Oval Lampshade

Oval lampshades are often specified for bedrooms, sideboards, console tables, hospitality interiors and decorative schemes where space is limited.

The proportions need to be considered carefully. A shade that is too shallow may look compressed, while one that is too deep can lose the benefit of the oval form. Fabric direction and pattern placement also need attention because the curved ends and longer faces behave differently.
