The drum lampshade is one of the most versatile contemporary lampshade shapes, with straight sides and a clean cylindrical profile. Its simple form works well across table lamps, floor lamps, pendant fittings and decorative lighting schemes where a balanced, modern proportion is required.

Each drum lampshade is handmade in our UK workshop and can be ordered from our standard range or developed as a bespoke drum lampshade for a specific project. We can make drum shades in a wide choice of fabrics, linings, trims and finishes, including customer’s own material where suitable.

What Is a Drum Lampshade?

A drum lampshade has a similar top and bottom diameter, creating a straight-sided cylindrical form. This gives the shade a cleaner and more contemporary appearance than tapered shapes such as an empire lampshade or cone lampshade.

The even profile makes the drum shape especially useful where a designer wants a simple outline that works with a wide range of lamp bases, pendant drops and interior styles.

Choosing the Right Drum Lampshade

Drum lampshades are often specified for bedrooms, living spaces, restaurants, hotels and more contemporary decorative schemes. Their character can be changed considerably through fabric, lining, scale and detailing.

A plain fabric can keep the form restrained and architectural, while patterned fabric, contrast lining or decorative trim can make the shade more expressive.
