West Hounslow Station Lighting | Bespoke Art Deco Lampshade
This bespoke lighting project was commissioned by Dan Maier of Extraordinary Design for Transport for London (TfL), to celebrate the centenary of Hounslow West Railway Station. The brief called for a one-of-a-kind lampshade to illuminate one of only two surviving Passimeters — the charming old-fashioned ticket booths that once defined station architecture.
The final piece was a remarkably large Art Deco-inspired lampshade, showcasing Dan’s artwork depicting a century of trains. To meet the station’s unique requirements, the design included internal lighting and a custom tilting mechanism, allowing the shade to be fitted perfectly within the Passimeter space.
Our team handled every stage in-house, from artwork printing and frame engineering to assembly and finishing. Careful planning ensured the shade met the maximum possible dimensions while remaining functional and durable. With a tight deadline to meet the client’s schedule, our design team worked in close collaboration with Dan — making refinements along the way and delivering the finished piece just two days after their return from a six-week holiday.
This project reflects how bespoke lampshades
can bring historic spaces to life, blending contemporary craftsmanship with heritage storytelling. It also demonstrates Iberian Lighting’s ability to manage complex collaboration projects
with artists and designers, ensuring both creative vision and practical demands are achieved.
