Bryan O'Sullivan - Juniper Lamp Bases being assembled and wired

A manufacturing partner for lighting designers and design studios

Dec 02, 2025

Lighting products demand clarity of intention and precision in making. A designer can shape the form and the narrative, but the transition from drawing to working object relies on a workshop that understands how materials, components and light behave together. Many studios now look for a manufacturing partner rather than several individual suppliers because the integrity of the design is only preserved when every part is developed and built in one place.

Why studios choose a dedicated lighting manufacturer

Lighting is complex. Metalwork, stone, ceramics, electrical components and fabric all influence the final piece. A stem that is one degree out of true, a base that carries the wrong weight, or a shade that diffuses light unevenly will undermine the design. When each element is made separately, small inconsistencies accumulate and the studio spends more time managing problems than shaping the collection.

A manufacturing partner removes this friction. The intent of the design stays intact because development, engineering and assembly follow a single, continuous process instead of being dispersed across multiple suppliers.

An integrated workshop for lighting product development

At Iberian Lighting, our workshop brings together the disciplines required to develop and produce lighting products. We fabricate brass hardware, produce 3D printed components, finish and patinate metalwork, source and integrate electrical parts, balance stone bases and create the lampshades that complete the form. Everything happens under one roof, which allows the design to be tested, refined and resolved with accuracy.

This integration is essential.
A change in stem thickness affects weight distribution.
A shift in lampholder height changes the reading of the silhouette.
A shade profile alters the tone and reach of the light.

These adjustments are made in real time, through practical testing rather than guesswork.

Development as collaboration

Design studios often bring sketches, CAD models or early prototypes that express the tone of the piece. From there, development becomes a shared process. A sculptural metal profile may need internal reinforcement. A marble or onyx base may require a hidden fixing for stability. A decorative collar may interfere with heat load or cable routing. The work lies in resolving these points without compromising the character of the design.

Prototyping, refinement and small batch testing ensure that the product behaves predictably in both residential and hospitality settings. This practical, craft led approach mirrors how established studios develop their own collections and signature pieces.

Repeatability for collections and multi site use

A lighting product only succeeds if it can be produced consistently. Once the design is approved, we document the build, confirm tolerances, lock in finishes and test the assembly for heat and mechanical stability. This supports studios who specify the same piece across several projects, retail channels or international locations.

Repeatability is not about volume. It is about discipline. The fifth piece must read like the first, with the same proportion, the same quality of light and the same presence in a room.

A partner for designers

Our role is to extend the studio’s capability. The designer sets the intention. We translate that intention into an object that stands up to use, carries the right atmosphere and reflects the care of its maker. This partnership allows the studio to focus on design while the workshop carries the responsibility for engineering, development and production.

For designers building lighting collections, signature table lamps, sculptural pendants or bespoke pieces for specific clients, a manufacturing partner is not an add-on. It is the condition that allows the design to reach its full clarity.
